# 7 — My first 50 visuals
The power of learning from and with others!

This visual represents something I strongly believe in. The power of a good community of practice. A place where you find experts and beginners and everything in between. Where knowledge and feedback are shared freely.
There is something very special about communities that bring together passionate like-minded people. When I started my Learning and development career many years ago I had little experience. Common sense and technical savviness got me where I was. Several powerful communities (and a ton of practice) got me where I am today.
When I joined the world of e-learning there was the amazing Articulate community, I’m part of an amazing global L&D community and now that I’ve started creating visuals I’m part of this amazing creative community that is part of the Explain Ideas Visually course I started 3 months ago.
Communities are where I learned all that has guided me through my career. And I’m thankful for each and everyone I met that has helped me and inspired me to get better and grow my skills. Community truly is the key to success.
Designing
At this point, I’m still designing my visuals in PowerPoint. The custom shape tool lets me do practically everything I want. In this visual I started experimenting with a background that actually ‘bleeds through’. This means creating multiple layers to create that effect. The picture in my mind was put on paper pretty fast and I’m really happy how it turned out.
If my visual resonates with you then please give it a like and perhaps a retweet. Did you like this story then consider following me here on Medium and Twitter.
